Vortex Pumps |
|
Capacities: 50 to 3,000 GPM Applications ... Fairbanks Morse Series 4500C, 4600CE & 4700E vortex hard metal pumps use a fully recessed impeller ideally suited for grit applications with higher concentrations of solids and sludge. 4500C - heavy duty, slow speed Ni-Hard or Super XT Ni-Hard (nominal 730 Brinell) pump with fully recessed cupped type vortex impeller with two piece case and removable wear plate. Sizes 2", 3", 4", 6", 8" discharge with various optional suction sizes; flow rates to 3,000 GPM; head to 140 feet; material Ni-Hard, Super XT Ni-Hard. 4600CE - standard duty pump with Ni-Hard liquid end, with fully recessed vortex impeller pump and replaceable Ni-Hard wear plate. Sizes 2", 3", 4", 6" discharge; flow rates to 1,400 GPM; head to 160 feet; material Ni-Hard, Super XT Ni-Hard. 4700E - cast iron fully recessed vortex pump with one piece casing (other alloys are available.) Sizes 2", 3", 4", 6" discharge; flow rates to 1,800 GPM; head to 200 feet; material cast iron or high chrome cast iron. Super XT Ni-Hard is harder (nominal 730 BHN) than our competitor's Class I Ni-Hard (650 BHN). Extensive field testing shows that hardness alone is not the only criterion of abrasion resistance. The controlling factor is the alloy microstructure. Experience has shown that the martensitic carbide structure of our Super XT alloy is superior to Class I Ni-Hard with similar or equal hardness. The combination of improved hardness with a better microstructure ensure that Fairbanks Morse components will wear better and last longer. The Fairbanks Morse HardMetal shaft sleeve is a solid, high carbon, high hardness martensitic material enriched with a dispersed and uniform chromium carbide phase providing optimum performance and wear resistance throughout its entire cross-section. Our customers realize a tremendous improvement in wear with this extraordinary material because as the sleeve wears, its cross-section remains just as hard and durable as its surface - unlike a coated sleeve. The Fairbanks Morse All-Ceramic sleeve provides ultimate protection for stuffing box applications. This unique sleeve is constructed of alumina and provides a highly abrasion-resistant surface in high wear applications. This sleeve, coupled with our specially designed packing set, will give unparalleled performance and long service life. Our NoseCone Kit protects your impeller hardware against erosion, corrosion and abrasion. This makes removal of the impeller far easier, reduces downtime and minimizes the need to replace these components when the pump impeller is removed for service. NoseCone also enhances hydraulic efficiency by providing a smoother passage of pumped fluid at the impeller hub. Package Options - we can supply many different drive configurations with your vortex pump, including motors, V-belt drive or direct coupling drive. Vertical Turbine Solids Handling Pumps |
|
Applications ... Fairbanks Morse VTSH© vertical turbine solids handling pumps have proven experience in pumping of solids, slurries, and sewage. These pump are specifically designed to pass solids, sludge, trash and long stringy materials. Only a single-sump set-well design eliminates the need for additional dry-sump, suction piping, dehumidification and sump pumps, thereby dramatically reducing initial construction costs - a savings from 40 to 70 percent when compared with conventional wet-pit/dry-pit designs. VTSH© pumps can be found in sewage and raw water lift stations, many unattended, which require utmost reliability and freedom from clogging and resistance to wear or other downtime maintenance. Plants demand pumps to provide sustained high performance, the best possible design to resist clogging, minimize wear, and minimum size driving motors and controls to reduce construction and operation costs. Sewage and wastewater treatment plants and industrial plants where solids handling service, sludge mixing, sludge re-circulation, return sludge, activated sludge, jet aeration, trickling filter, filter backwash, and primary and secondary effluent is required are typical installations. Other installations include river intake, plant influent and storm water pumping. The VTSH© is ideally suited for installation in the new Trench-Type Self-Cleaning Wet Well design recently introduced. The successful application of the Fairbanks Morse VTSH© pumps requires the consideration of many elements. In addition to knowing the capacity and discharge head requirements, other factors which need to be evaluated include:
Other considerations include:
Features... Parameters of Fairbanks Morse VTSH© pumps require the units to be available in configurations to meet user needs. Fairbanks Morse meets these demands by providing VTSH© pumps in 10", 16", 20", 24" and 30" nominal bowl diameters. Impellers are of the non-clogging type designed with blunt, well-rounded leading vanes and thick hydrofoil shape to ensure passage of large solids and long stringy materials. VTSH© pumps are substantially more efficient over a broad capacity range than conventional solids-handling pumps. The diffuser bowl design is such that there is no bearing below the impeller to obstruct flow into the impeller eye or on which trash could collect. The bowl is designed with two symmetrically arranged well- rounded diffuser vanes which serve to fully balance the radial hydraulic forces and eliminate the radial load of the impeller. Consequently, bending forces imposed on the shaft are virtually eliminated, resulting in long bearing life and a smooth, quiet operation. Material of construction include cast iron bowls and impellers, and stainless steel pump shaft. Column is flanged and lineshaft is enclosed for water flushing and lubrication of bearings. The column contains a vertical splitter plate aligned with the vertical exits of the bowl vane to prevent trash from accumulating on the shaft enclosing tube. VTSH© pump design allows the entire drive system and controls to be located above the flood plane. Virtually any drive system: VHSNSS motors, variable-speed motors, wound-rotor motors, two-speed motors, magnetic and fluid couplings, steam turbines, engines, and combination electric and standby engines can be used.

Submersible Dry-Pit Solids-Handling Pumps |
|
Applications ... Fairbanks Morse submersible dry-pit solids-handling pumps have over 40 years of proven experience in pumping of solids, slurries, sludge, pulp, trash, sewage and grit. These pump are specifically designed to pass solids, trash and long stringy materials. Submersible dry-pit solids-handling pumps can be found in sewage and raw water lift stations, many unattended, which require utmost reliability and freedom from clogging or other downtime maintenance and specifically where there is a chance for station flooding. Plants demand pumps to provide sustained high performance, the best possible design to resist clogging, and minimum size driving motors and controls to reduce construction and operation costs. Sewage and wastewater treatment plants and industrial plants where solids handling service is required are other typical installations. The successful application of submersible dry-pit solids-handling pumps requires the consideration of many elements. In addition to knowing the capacity and discharge head requirements, other factors which need to be evaluated include:
Other considerations include:
Features... Parameters of submersible dry-pit solids-handling pumps require the units to be available in configurations to meet user needs. Fairbanks Morse meets these demands by providing submersible solids-handling pumps in discharge sizes from 2" to IO" in diameter. Pumps are secured to the sump floor with the suction and discharge hard piped. The unit runs continuously non-submerged. Pumps and motors are UL Listed for operation in Class I, Division 1, Group C and D hazardous locations, and feature explosion-proof construction. Impellers are single-suction, mixed-flow design with large passageways, vanes with blunt well-rounded leading edges and a thick hydrofoil shape preventing long stringy material from wrapping around the leading edge. Impellers are matched with thick-wall equalizing-pressure, constant-velocity volutes. This design channels the flow away from the impeller vanes into the circular flow area of the impeller passageways and casing, to ensure passage of large solids and long stringy materials, reduce turbulence and radial and bending shaft forces. Abrasive wear is minimized, bearing, mechanical seal and shaft life is lengthened, and most important, maintenance and downtime costs are greatly reduced, resulting in true savings. An added advantage is a smooth, quiet and trouble-free installation. Material of construction include cast iron volutes, cast iron or bronze impellers and stainless steel shaft. Shafts are sealed by two separate tandem mounted mechanical seals to protect the motor from the pumped liquid. Pump is driven by a UL Listed submersible motor with superior sealing features over other submersible motor designs to ensure a durable long life unit. In fact, Fairbanks Morse backs their submersible units with a five-year prorated warranty. These run-dry motors are water jacketed utilizing a portion of the liquid being pumped to carry away motor heat. A unique, self-cleaning rotating flow-control disc prevents virtually any solids from entering and accumulating in the mechanical seal area and cooling water jacket. A still tube located in the cooling water jacket allows air to escape as the cooling water enters.

Vertical Turbine Pumps |
|
Capacities: 40 to 50,000 GPM Applications ... Fairbanks Morse vertical turbine pumps are of rugged, heavy-duty construction designed to successfully operate in a multitude of applications such as pumping from water source including wells, lakes, cooling ponds, tanks, rivers and oceans. These applications include raw water intake, liquid transfer, cooling water circulation, booster service, storm water, flood control, marine, process services, volatile fluids, condensate, fuel pumps and mine dewatering. Fairbanks Morse vertical turbine pump applications are found in a variety of markets including: urban and rural municipal water, irrigation, chemical processing, primary metals, petroleum, power plants, mines, food processing, offshore platforms, and more. The successful application of vertical turbine pumps requires the consideration of many elements. In addition to knowing the capacity and discharge head requirements, other factors which need to be evaluated include:
Other considerations include:
Features ... Parameters of vertical pumping applications require the units be available in a variety of pumping configurations to meet user needs. Fairbanks Morse meets these demands by providing pump bowls from 4" to 57" in diameter. Turbine bowls can be staged in series to produce the necessary discharge pressures. Materials of construction include cast iron, bronze, and stainless steel, or other machineable materials. Wear rings are available to provide a renewable surface. Open line shafts allow the product to lubricate the shaft bearings. Enclosed line shafts can provide external water flush, oil, or grease-bearing lubrication. Threaded or flanged column and line shaft assemblies are available in both short and deep-set applications. Drive shafts extending through the discharge head can be sealed using either packing or mechanical seals. A wide range of mechanical seal designs are available along with an assortment of packing box designs, including those for high-pressure applications. Fairbanks Morse also offers an array of discharge head designs, including cast iron or fabricated steel construction, above-or below-ground discharge, and flanged or plain-end discharge connections. Vertical pumps require a minimum of NPSH since the lowest impeller is submerged in the liquid. However, even when the system design does not provide enough NPSH, vertical turbine pumps can be supplied with its own reservoir or "pot". In this way, submergence required by the first stage impeller can be achieved to ensure reliable performance. Vertical turbine pumps can be driven by vertical hollow-shaft motors, vertical solid-shaft motors, or through right-angle gears by an internal combustion engine, steam turbine, or horizontal motor. When vertical hollow-shaft drivers are used, impeller-to-bowl clearances can be maintained with an adjusting nut located at the top of the driver. When vertical solid-shaft drivers are utilized, impeller clearance is regulated with an adjustable coupling. |
